passive or militant?

most everyone is near “militant” about the causes they support, rightfully so in many cases given the semi fascist police states we live in. over the years in the food security business, i have yet to come across anyone or group that is militantesque / hardcore regarding the need or call to action to help feed food insecure brothers and sisters, let alone help break down the barriers of peoples misconceptions about the hungry.

US cities prefer the pantry system. this way everyday folks do not get to see the numbers and the fact that its a problem that can affect them if just one month or even a week of pay is gone. thankfully though many pantries have adopted grants to get trucks so they can go into senior homes and the like, set up shop and give food to those in need. also free farmers markets have popped up over the last few years.

its great these are in place, however there is a vast majority of people that are not reached, they may have issues that prevent them from going to a pantry or a church community meal. timid, homeless, transitional, ect..ect..

how to reach them? how to force change? the change to provide better food as opposed to mercury tainted tuna and carbs carbs carbs that make many folks obese thus making many folks feel “hey he is big so why in line for free food?” how to take the fight to the streets- rent the malls in your city and line those in need up thus forcing the issue into the public view which your city is trying to hide?

does the answer lie with the lobbyists? no, as i cant name a few that are actually effective. the food banks that rely too much on the goverment?
