J.R.R. Tolkien

“There are many things that a man feels legitimate even though they cause a fuss. Let him not lie about them to his life or lover! Cut them out–or if worth a fight: just insist. Such matters may arise frequently–the glass of beer, the pipe, the non writing of letters, the other friend, etc., etc. If the other side’s claims really are unreasonable (as they are at times between the dearest lovers and most loving married folk) they are much better met by above board refusal and ‘fuss’ than subterfuge.”

‎”What really happens is that the story-maker proves a successful ‘sub-creator’. He makes a Secondary World which your mind can enter. Inside it, what he relates is ‘true’: it accords with the laws of that world. You therefore believe it, while you are, as it were, inside. The moment disbelief arises, the spell is broken; the magic, or rather art, has failed. You are then out in the Primary World again, looking at the little abortive Secondary World from outside.” ~ J.R.R. Tolkien

FB response relating to the fall of actual writings

from FaceBook, and when i mention FB i mean the whole FaceBook culture, which is killing journalim and user specific groups and communities.

Brian Feather statement agreed upon. social network is almost too scattered. I remember in our GD and NH days that there were some very good topics that were written about in volumes AND many comments came back in volumes. specific themed sites appear to be dropping off or becoming more like FB in its vast scope, instead its filled with friends of friends of friends. on FB there are too many distractions since your wall may contain 30 totally different topics at any given time as opposed to being on one site that has one main focal point. and again, i feel FB has killed true inet interaction and the means to express it. people i have known on the old forums systems used to correspond with me as we did before- long letters, long response- thought out! now that many are on here all I get is one liners which is a learned behavior on here from watching/interacting with others that are not interested in what they would consider long winded. even if a well thought out/written post is up, too often its glossed over just for keywords that may lift an ear in interest. Im very glad that you and Thor are here, the three of us still like to write.
